About the Application
1. When can I apply to Urbantech?

2. How do I apply to Urbantech?

3. What stage should my startup be at to fit the program?
We accept applications from all over the world. The starting point for all our partnerships is the commitment to collaborate with people and program partners, startups that share our values and vision. Thus, we are looking for startups who are interested in working with VKR Holding, Ewii and COWI on accelerating the development of sustainable cities.
We imagine that together with your team you are running a growth-stage startup that has built, tested and improved a product currently being marketed. You are welcome to contact us if in doubt about whether your startup meets the application criteria.
4. What happens after I submit my application?
Once you’ve submitted your application, the Urbantech program team will review your submission. If an initial fit exists between your startup and the program, we will be in touch to arrange a video conference to get to know each other better. After the call, if our interests align you will be invited to join a Selection Day event at the program location. During Selection Days, you’ll learn more about the program elements, receive presentation coaching, mentor preparation and meet carefully selected mentors, investors, and partners.
5. When will I know if I am invited to Selection Days?
If you are one of the teams invited to Selection Days, we will let you know as soon as possible after the application deadline, but no later than two weeks prior to Selection Days.
About Fast Track Events and Selection Days:
6. What is a Fast Track event and how can I join?
A Fast Track event is either a one day pitching event or one-on-one meetings where selected startups are invited to connect with key innovation decision-makers at Urbantech, and thus potentially get fast tracked into the Urbantech program. Simply put, it is a great way for us to get to know each other better, faster.
Remember, if you are invited to join a Fast Track event, you will still need to apply for the Urbantech program through our online application process.
7. How does joining a Fast Track event help me?
If you’re one of the startups selected to join one of the Fast Track events, you’ll be invited to showcase your startup’s potential in front of the Urbantech team, and ask any questions you may have about the program and its partners. The one-to-one exposure can help boost your chances of being selected into the program and generally fast track you to Urbantech.
8. What is the difference between Fast Track events and Selection Days?
The Fast Track events are events/meetings we organize in selected cities around the world. They are designed as a unique opportunity to meet and connect with the Urbantech team, and potentially put you on a fast track to the program.
The ‘Selection Days’ event is the last assessment tool of our selection process. After the application deadline on May 26th, the top 20 startups will be invited to join the ‘Selection Days’ event at BLOXHUB in Copenhagen. By the end of the event we will have identified the top 10 startups who will be invited to join the program.
9. When and where will the Fast Track events take place?
The Fast Track events will take place across the world in the following cities:

10. When and where will Selection Days take place?
The Selection Days will take place at BLOXHUB in Copenhagen. Date is to be determined.
11. Are there other opportunities than the Fast Track events to meet Urbantech?
Yes! During the selection process we will invite high potential startups to online interviews.
About the Urbantech Location
12. Where is the program located?
The program is located in Copenhagen, Denmark, where you’ll be working in beautiful surroundings close to the waterfront in the city centre.
Denmark has excellent framework conditions and high demand for innovation solutions in the urban tech space. Triple-helix corporation is preferred enabling you to establish pilot projects quick and easy.
BLOXHUB is an urban tech hub that brings companies, organizations and researchers together to co-create solutions for better cities. The community here facilitates new businesses in the field of sustainable urbanization: urban tech, architecture, design and more.
13. Where is BLOXHUB?
14. How to I get from the airport to Copenhagen?
It’s easy to get from the airport to the city center (Nørreport St or Kongens Nytorv). Just jump on the Metro or get the train to Copenhagen Central Station. If you’d rather hop in a cab, that’s easy too. The airport is only a 20-25 minute drive from the city center.
15. Do I need to relocate to the program's location?
All the startups that join the program will need to have at least 2 team members, including a co-founder, founder or CEO present during the program at all times.
You can have up to 4 people taking part on the program and we only ask that you are around for the weekdays of the program. So whether or not you relocate is up to you, but you will be required to be in several days per week.
16. How many team members should we involve in the program?
We imagine that a team of 2-4 decision makers such as founders, co-founders, CEO, will be needed during the program.
17. Do I need a Visa to travel to Denmark for the program?
We do provide visa and other logistical support (living, bank accts, etc) to each team entering the program. Each country’s visa requirement is, of course, unique, but we have close connections to the local and federal government to ensure securing residency is as smooth as possible.

18. Is accommodation provided as part of the program?
Your startup will receive €15.000 in cash to cover living expenses. It’s up to you to find a place that feels like home. The Urbantech team is of course ready to advice on preferential options.
Each startup get workspace and desks at co-working facilities at BLOXHUB for free.
About the Program
19. What is Urbantech?
The Urbantech program is a world class accelerator program for startups within the urban tech space, hosted in Copenhagen, Denmark. Together with the partners of the program, the startups will scale their businesses and further the future development of sustainable cities. The program will run once every year over the next three years, admitting 10 startups in each cycle.
We define urbantech as:
Technology-driven, intelligent solutions for continued sustainable development of the urban environment.
20. What's the program deal?
The desired outcome of the Urbantech Program is to explore, test and establish collaborations between participating startups and COWI, Ewii and VKR (i.e. Velux).
During the program you will benefit from:
- Connections to the leading corporates in your industry for pilot projects, partnership opportunities, and as customers.
- Startups get case-by-case pilot facilitation from Rainmaking’s global network of serial entrepreneurs, and experience from doing startup programs in more than 40 countries on three continents.
- Expert-led sessions covering all scaling fundamentals – as well as how to partner with corporates and run successful pilots.
- 100 carefully selected mentors from the urban tech industry, who provide hands-on support and valuable introductions.
- A 3-month proven program designed to help you scale your startup even further, plus access to alumni program & network.
- Each startup will receive €15.000 in cash to cover living expenses. Each startup also get co-working desks at BLOXHUB for free.
21. How long is the program?
The full program takes 3 months for the startups where there is mutual a collaboration potential. It runs from August till November.
22. How much time will I need to invest in the program?
When you are invited to join your selected team is expected to make a 100% commitment to being on-site for the full 3-month program duration.
23. What is your approach to taking out equity?
Urbantech will not take equity in the startups as a prerequisite to join the program.
24. What happens after the program?
Following the 12 week program the Urbantech partners are open to several ways of collaborating. For instance through setting up license agreements, development agreements or establishing joint ventures. Partners will also consider collaborating through investing or signing supplier agreements with your startup.
And of course, once graduated, you’ll become part of the Alumni Growth program, which provides you with a continued access to a global ecosystem of founders and mentors.
After demo day, you will additionally be able to stick around for an extra 3 months. And… who wouldn’t want to stay in Wonderful Copenhagen?
27. Why is the program hosted in Copenhagen, Denmark?
Denmark is widely known for being a leader within architecture, design and sustainability. At the same time Denmark is perfectly located as a hub to reach the rest of Europe and the world. The major cities in both the eastern and western parts of Denmark are booming with future-friendly developments. Add world-class research, superior digital infrastructure and a collaborative eco-system.
This combination of national knowhow and global reach is at the heart of Urbantech, as it aims to accelerate the development of sustainable cities in Denmark and around the globe.
25. If I applied for the previous Urbantech program, can I apply again?
Absolutely. We know startups evolve all the time. Hence, we encourage you to apply for Urbantech 2020 or 2021.
