‘Soon organisations, countries and companies will be run by a piece of code…’

A Quick Q&A with Kaidi Ruusalepp CEO of Funderbeam

Who is the person who has most influenced the way you think about cities and technology?

Kaidi Ruusalepp

It actually goes back to 1996 when I worked as the first IT lawyer of Estonia. We had the youngest Prime Minister back then and he had an information and communications technology advisor, Linnar Viik. In 1996! I think those 2 gentlemen influenced me the most in relation to the power of technology. And cities? the Head of the Engineering Team in Google. The way they see the world and cities is something we even can’t imagine.

What is your most surprising prediction?

That soon organisations and countries and limited companies will be run by a piece of code written by a group of people that agree to follow those. We will build trust in technology and focus on the essence. Delivering products, helping people, cleaning the ocean etc, instead of putting massive effort on corporate governance.

What 2-3 books / podcasts would you recommend?

I would recommend Rachel Botsman “Who can you trust?”, Parag Khanna “The future is Asian” and Malcolm Gladwell “Outliers”.

Where’s the best place for new ideas?

Forest and hiking. No doubt. This means there is no podcast or audiobook going into one’s brain. Just hiking and thoughts.

Who inspires you?

Funderteam. All of them. It’s an amazing group of people that can make me feel like a) I don’t deserve them as they are simply so professional or b) I can’t keep up the speed or c) jokes are so deep that I have to google some things. Our team is a continuous source of inspiration.
